Eli's Big Move

Eli has made a few moves since he arrived at New Day, from the CCU to the baby room, and then back to the CCU after his most recent stay in the hospital last winter, but he has always been upstairs. A few weeks ago he started preschool which gave him a chance to explore and see all the fun things we have downstairs. However, Eli just made his biggest move yet, he moved downstairs!

After preschool Eli confidently walked out of class into his new adventure.

His nanny had prepared him ahead of time for this big change, and his new nanny, Andrea, was quick to welcome him with open arms.

Then it was time to meet some of his new friends. He wasn't too sure what to think of Hallie.

What is one of the best things about moving to a new room? New toys of course! Eli enjoying testing out  many of the toys and the walker we have for the downstairs kids.

We know that this is a big move, but we think you're going to like it downstairs Eli!

NDNorth: A Morning in the Life of Frank

Frank has been with New Day North for 4 months now, and introductions have been made, but we thought it was high time for all you cheerers and supporters of ND North kiddos to be able to watch him in action. So come on in- you are invited to spend a morning in the life of this endearing boy!

We meet Frank as he's coming in from his morning walk. Can you close the door?

Good job, big boy!

Time to practice standing! You look great! Music makes everything more enjoyable, yeah?

Frank is the definition of "all boy" and loves to move. There's just something about boys and speed, right? Crawling is not easy for him, and sometimes frustrating, but with his determination and a little encouragement, he can go far, and is getting faster and faster!

Why are you so excited, buddy?

Aha, you crawled over to one of your favorite activities, the big green ball!

What could make it better? Only a little blue car!

Boys and cars and balls...

"Time to get down and let Veronica take a turn you say? No problem, I'll entertain myself!"

It's your turn again, Frank!

"Guys, this is the best thing EVER!"

Veronica looks like she thinks it's her turn again... Or maybe she just misses her brother when he's up so high on the therapy ball.

One last bounce, OK Frank?

As you can see, Frank has grown fast since he came to us, as little boys are prone to do. What fun to watch him maturing, communicating, using his imagination, and trying new things.

Thanks for letting us stop in, Frank! 你是最棒的!(You're the best!) Enjoy the rest of your day.

Therapy Tuesday: Isaac's Signing

Isaac goes to speech therapy every day towards the end of preschool. He is always so excited when Lillian comes to pick him up. He happily stands up, waves goodbye, and walks to the speech room with her.

Isaac has been working hard learning at communicating using sign language and practicing making different sounds.

When his therapy is over Lillian normally takes him downstairs to meet his foster mom, but the other day she had to come up to our medical office to ask a question, which is right next to our speech room. Isaac wasn't facing the door, but he heard his foster mom talking, and we were all surprised at his reaction.

Do you know what Isaac is signing? It's home! As soon as he heard his foster moms voice he signed home, because he knows it's time to go home when she gets there.

Great job Isaac! We're so proud of your signing!

A Very Busy Summer

It's been a really busy summer here at New Day, we can't believe it's already the middle of September!

We thought it'd be fun to do a little summer recap here, since in all the busyness this little blog has felt a bit neglected.

This summer we have spent every possible moment enjoying the beautiful weather outside by going on a lot of walks.

Picking (and eating) fruit from our gardens is one of our favorite things to do in the summer.
And we can't forget about planting flowers!

There are so many fun things to play with in our backyard and courtyard! The kids can always find something fun to do.

Swimming is the best way to spend any hot summer afternoon!

With so much fun, laughter, and smiles, we can all agree this was a very fun, and very busy summer!

NDNorth: Samuel's Talents

Samuel is a boy of many talents. He’s an avid book-lover...

And an aspiring musician.

He’s one of the sweetest, smooshiest cuddle-bugs you’ll find...

But he’s just recently added to his fine list of accomplishments...

SITTING independently

And STANDING on his own by the sofa!

These photos were taken by his nanny as she was so proud him and excited at these milestones for little Samuel!

We sure are proud of you, Samuel. You’ve already overcome so much in your life, and it’s a joy to see you happy, growing, and exploring!
