Who is Handsome?

Gan Lu had a sweet conversation with Asher the other day. It went like this:

Gan Lu to Asher: Are you handsome?

Asher (with a big smile on his face): Yes! I'm handsome!

Gan Lu : What about Luke?

Asher: When he smiles, he's handsome. But he never smiles! (Actually, Luke is a very happy boy).

Gan Lu: And what about Hudson?

Asher: Hudson is handsome! (Hudson smiles all the time)

It appears that Asher equates being happy and smiling to handsomeness. We're inclined to agree.

Friendships are magical...

The friendship between Margaret and Hayden is very very special.

They have so much fun together.

They both have similar interests....like getting their photos taken :)
And they really enjoy each other's company.

They both have adorable smiles....
that light up any room they walk into!

A friend is a wonderful gift and we are so happy that these two have made that connection.

The Hairdresser is Open!

What a joy it is to watch the little ones learn to play, imagine and create in preschool. We've had our share of pretend meals, tea parties and picnics, but it's not too often that we have a hairdresser at work. The other day, however, the little play kitchen had transformed into a barber shop and Asher was the first victim customer.

Zoe is our very professional looking hair-cutter. Selah was her assistant.

And when Asher's trim is all done, a dunk in the sink to rinse off loose hairs...

...followed by getting toweled off, is the right way to do it. Zoe knows. She's watched enough haircuts and had a few of her own during the two years she has lived at New Day.

Oops! Missed a little hair right here...

Next up, Luke! Hopefully he'll sit nice and still...

Did he? Well, see for yourself...

It's amazing he had any hairs left after the cut!

NDSouth: A Glimpse into the Playroom

Have you ever been curious what happens in our playroom?

If one day you happen upon us here, you would likely see Evelyn quietly playing.

Chloe checking out the new toys and seeing if they hold up to her teething demands.

Children learning how to share!

Bing Bing showing off her awesome balancing skills!

And of course, Thad would be entertaining everyone with his music.

Getting to Know Josiah!

We’d like to introduce you to one of our new little guys. I’m sure you’ve seen his cute face appear in some of the newer photos. We are so happy to have him with us.

Welcome Josiah!

I recently had the opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with sweet Josiah. At first when I met him, he was very hesitant and resisted my advances to befriend him. But recently, I found that he opened up a bit as he watched me interact with little Jack. Children are usually pretty good at picking up on body language and I suppose when Josiah saw how much fun it looked being lifted up and tickled, he wanted to join in too! When Jack walked away, Josiah came right up and stood in front of me, lifting his hands up to signal he wanted to be lifted up too! So I carefully lifted him up into the air and back down, then tickled and cuddled him. What a delight it was for me to hear his precious, one-of-a-kind giggle for the first time! It must be such a scary experience for an almost 4 year old to move to a different place with so many strangers. Josiah is brave, learning the ropes and routines that the other children know so well by now. But more importantly, he is brave because even after so much loss in his short life, he is slowly opening his little heart to love and to be loved. And what an honor it is to love him! He is smiling more now and you can tell he is enjoying joining in with the other children’s activities in preschool. We are looking forward to seeing his personality blossom during his time here! We really hope his forever family will come for him soon!

NDSouth: Bing Bing and her Ayi

The job of an Ayi is like that of a Mother ~

And we happen to have some of the kindest Ayis around.

Bing Bing and Thad adore their Ayi who knows just how to bring a smile to their faces!

Our children learn about love from our wonderful Ayis.
Just look at the adoration in Bing Bing's eyes ~

High five Ayi!  You are indeed doing an amazing and so important job!
Bing Bing agrees ~

Let your Imagination Soar!

We've taken the kids to lots of different places for field-trips. Sometimes it's the Zoo, sometimes the pool, we've gone strawberry picking and peach picking and once some of the older children even got to visit the airport!

Educational field-trips are great, but sometimes an adventure to toyland (aka: the Molly Fantasy Playground) is the best of all.

Annabel's buddy for the day was Yvonne, our current OT. Don't worry, Annabel didn't drive the bullet train too fast.

Millie enjoyed the playground's play kitchen. We have a nice one in the preschool room at New Day, but this one was spotless and full of good food and clean dishes.

While Millie did the cooking, Cora Jo and Zoe did some shopping...

A ball pit and rope tunnel? This place had it all!

Something gives me an idea that we'll add the Playground to our list of regular field trips. What do you think?

Lots more pictures in our scrapbook!

Cuteness Overload

Little Lily and Eli. Our tiniest ones.

Lily is seven months old. Eli will be one in March.

Both are heart warriors, born with broken hearts.

They're little miracles. Eli has already had his first surgery, but waits for another.

Lily hasn't had surgery yet, but she will need an operation in order to survive.

In the meantime, the two of them are getting double-doses of love in our Critical Care Unit.

Actually, make that triple-doses... we love them so dearly. How could we not?
